About Masala

Masala was founded by Todd and I just after we came up with our first card line, Fleanotes in 2004. One of Todd’s creative passions is photographing quirky objects from Flea markets and yard sales. After years of art-for-art’s-sake photography and accruing a massive collection of amazing images, we realized that we had a goldmine of potential humorous greeting cards. We started combining captions with the photos, and voila! Fleanotes was born.

Two years later, building on our success with Fleanotes, we introduced Drama Queens. In this line we’ve drawn upon Todd’s street photography and huge collection of old postcards and have added funny, sometimes edgy captions geared toward the celebration of birthdays, and other special occasions.

This year we are happy to introduce a new line to our repertoire. Grasshopper Press is a museum-quality collection of prints and illustrations we have chosen for their graphic appeal and artistry.

We love beautiful and unusual cards, and so we have also become distributors for some of our favorite lines both from the UK and Canada. Art Angel Printmakers is a highly sought after card line, comprised of printmakers from the UK and Scotland. Umpen Editions is a quirky, fun, whimsical line that we just couldn’t resist adding. Peacerev is a fantastic assembly of offbeat, clever and slightly irreverent cards. Its one of our most popular lines!

We hope you find the perfect cards for your store!

About Debbie & Todd

Todd Smith and Debbie Foster are the owners of Masala Cards and live in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is far too hip for their taste, but they are settled here, nonetheless, surrounded by their incredible family…kids and grandkids!

Todd holds an MFA from Pratt Institute and has worked as a commercial photographer, illustrator and freelance graphic designer for more years than he cares to admit.

Debbie has enjoyed a long and sometimes glamorous career working for a variety of design and manufacturing companies as product developer and sales manager.
